computer down...

My computer that I used to scan images for this blog is broke so there probably won't be any (or at least as many) posts for a few days. It is supposed to be a 'network printer/scanner' but the scanner only seems to work when it is hooked up via USB connection.

Grady Martin and the Slew Foot Five - Happy Birthday/The Anniversary Song

If you manage to make it through the first bit of the happy birthday song it's actually a pretty good country rock band playing the music (and I normally hate country). If nothing else it would be something cool to bring out for that next Birthday bash that you are throwing!

Hollywood Class Reunion

Remember the celebrity voice impersonator craze of the late 70's/early 80's? In my young mind Rich Little was king!

Well, let's just count this one as a really poor man's Rich Little! From a Dove Books on Tape release.

The Frank Clarke Kids - Trinidad's Steelband Prodigies

This one was made by a bunch of kids ranging in age from 7-16. It's basically your typical steel drum music so you will either like it or you won't.

Victor Lundberg - An Open Letter To My Teenage Son/My Buddy Carl (45)

"Your mother will love you no matter what you do... because she is a woman!"

Just one delicious quote from this horrible pro-American propaganda piece! This is mainly a pro-Vietnam single penned by Victor Lundberg, an American radio personality from Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is the complete 45, with all of it's scratchy goodness.

From wikipedia:

Lundberg was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was a newscaster at Grand Rapids radio station WMAX when he released "An Open Letter" in September 1967. The record, written by Lundberg and produced by Jack Tracy, imagines Lundberg talking to his teenage son -- in real life, Lundberg apparently had at least one male teenager in his household at the time. Lundberg touches on hippies, the Vietnam War, and patriotism. The voice-over, spoken over "Battle Hymn of the Republic", memorably ends with Lundberg telling his son that, if the teen burns his draft card, then he should "burn (his) birth certificate at the same time. From that moment on, I have no son."

Steuben's Alpine Orchestra - Switzerland

I picked this one up at a local thrift store for forty cents but it was barely worth that! According to the cover it was recorded live but all that meant was that they dubbed some long applause routines at the end of the tracks along with some ridiculous crowd chatter. I was hoping that it would be more Swiss and less American but alas that was not to be.

Various - The Best of Comedy

This one was probably a promotional cassette but it's a nice little collection of funny bits from Bill Cosby, Rodney Dangerfield, Buddy Hackett and more. It's not very long but it's still funny. Includes two Fat Albert bits from Bill Cosby.

Various - Battle of the Big Bands

I have to warn you that this album is a little rough but it's a nice compilation of Big Band greats doing their thing.

Pardon My Blooper Vol. 3 - Kermit Schafer

Here is the last volume of this series that I have in my collection. I have seen a volume 6 on eBay (for twice as much as I paid for these three!) so I know that there are at least three more. If anyone has a link to the rest please post it in the comments.

Pardon My Blooper Vol. 1 - Kermit Schafer

I picked up three of these from an EBAY auction and will be posting them over the next couple of days. They are comprised of radio bloopers from many regional shows and some national shows. There aren't a lot of well known personalities here but they are still a fun listen.

The Milt Raskin Group - The Exotic Sounds of Hawaii

This is a pretty solid effort from the Crown Records budget label. Nice lounge music with some 'Hawaiian' sounds thrown in for good measure. This one is also from my stash of ten cent thrift store albums that I picked up last week. Sound is pretty good but there were a few scratches on the album.

A Treasury of German Party and Drinking Songs

This one kind of all runs together so I didn't split it into tracks. It sounds like it was recorded in some German drinking hall during Oktoberfest but it's obviously a studio job with lots of overdubs. It's not all that bad but I can't see myself pulling it to listen very often as it just doesn't fit any normal mood music that I would normally select.
