Jack's Steel Band - Songs By Cliff Calvin (1978)

This one is a really good steel band album that I picked up from eBay.

I found a bit of info about this band on the interet:

For over 30 years Jack's Steel Band has delighted visitors to Puerto Rico with a blend of traditional Calypso and Island music and Latin and American standards. This is an authentic "down island" Steel Band completely organic and unplugged. Five musicians perform on 9 steel pans, drums and percussion and create the perfect tropical ambience

Smorgasboard In Music - Swedish Folktone Pickled Twelve Ways

The album doesn't credit any of the artists but what you get here is a nice mix of Swedish folk songs. This was an ESSO giveaway in the mid 1970's. I was unable to find any information about this LP on the net (or on EBAY) so I would guess that it is quite rare.

Freddy Quinn - Junge, komm bald wieder

This guy was also apparently an actor (or was he an actor first? I don't know.) as well as a fairly accomplished German crooner.

The Frank Clarke Kids - Trinidad's Steelband Prodigies

This one was made by a bunch of kids ranging in age from 7-16. It's basically your typical steel drum music so you will either like it or you won't.

Steuben's Alpine Orchestra - Switzerland

I picked this one up at a local thrift store for forty cents but it was barely worth that! According to the cover it was recorded live but all that meant was that they dubbed some long applause routines at the end of the tracks along with some ridiculous crowd chatter. I was hoping that it would be more Swiss and less American but alas that was not to be.

A Treasury of German Party and Drinking Songs

This one kind of all runs together so I didn't split it into tracks. It sounds like it was recorded in some German drinking hall during Oktoberfest but it's obviously a studio job with lots of overdubs. It's not all that bad but I can't see myself pulling it to listen very often as it just doesn't fit any normal mood music that I would normally select.

Belly Dancing Albums of the 70's

This one is all music and no narration and it is quite good. Gus was born in America of Greek parents and still continues to play to this day. The music is middle-eastern inspired instrumental and highly worth your checking it out.

This one is a straight up instructional album with lots of narration that tends to ruin the otherwise good music. It came with a small pamphlet but I can't see how one could learn to belly dance with just this thing.

Albert Greiner Chorus - Folk Songs of Old Germany

I was really hoping that this would be more like old German polka music but instead it was more like church chorale music. It's not really my cup of tea but maybe it is yours?

Various - Classic Russian Movie Soundtrack Compilation

I picked this one up at our local Hasting's a few years ago (for a buck) and found it in our garage last night. It's a nice two cd set of classic Russian movie soundtrack songs (I think, the cd is all in cyrillic but I found the set on a Russian website). Two discs of nice Russian folk music and well worth the download if you are into this sort of thing.
